VIOLET YIN 殷梓人Violet Yin, a painter and educator originally from Shanghai, China, and now based in New Jersey, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in May 2017. It was during her time at SAIC that she discovered her deep affinity for oil painting and immersed herself in the timeless art of observational painting.
For Violet, figuration and representation serve as the fundamental building blocks of abstraction. Her artistic journey began during a study trip to Mont Castello, Italy in the summer of 2015, where she found inspiration in the interplay of color and shape while working en plein air. Between 2019 and 2020, she embarked on a transformative path toward a more abstract approach. In 2020, Violet became a first-time mother to Theodore during the COVID-19 pandemic. Motherhood brought both joys and challenges, along with separation from her child, which led her to channel her emotions and imagination into her art. Initially working in a figurative style, she began juxtaposing images of her toddler son in meaningful settings and experiences. Through the medium of oil painting, Violet explores the evolving relationship and profound moments she shares with her son. Today, Violet is weaving basic forms into dynamic compositions, experimenting with color to uncover the profound joy found in the simplicity of original shapes. Violet Yin's art is a testament to her artistic evolution, influenced by a diverse tapestry of life experiences, from her education at SAIC and the landscapes of Italy to the joys and challenges of motherhood. |
